Land and Light

So I got to spend 3 days in central last weekend in Queenstown, and was treated to some epic weather, scenery and light. I got to be a passenger in the car for once, so most of these are from the car window.

I also write feature articles for the ODT and recently did some work on Dunedin Designers, UNDONE. They got their friend in to model some clothes for me, and am now planning a whole lot of shoots with this lass, shes so fresh and unspoiled by the modeling world...

When I Get It Right

So if your reading my blog, you probably know how much I love skateboarding, and that when i'm not photographing weddings and commercial stuff, i love nothing more then lying on some uncomfortable concrete trying to shoot photos of my friends throwing themselves off stairwells and over 3m gaps and picket fences.

Tyler Isherwood, indy-grab at the Southern Cross carpark.
... breaking the rules with subject centre framed... tisk tisk... but i like it.

Skate mish with a few lads up to the tiny town of Hampden earlier this year. For some random reason Hampden has this incredible ramp, right by the ocean.  Jordan Vidler shreds.

Shot this with Hootie Andrews in July 2012. Hardflip at NEV School.

Tyler Isherwood, Treflip, Pine Hill.

Some people might think I shouldn't be shooting skating cause I don't actually skate (well i used to roll down to art school everyday... but we wont get into that), but if you knew me, and knew my life, and knew how much i value these boys and what they do, you would know that i genuinely love shooting this stuff, Learning how, why and when have been my best photographic progressions, personally in my life in the last 4 years, timing is everything. Composition is everything. Friends are everything- thanks guys.

I am lucky enough to have known some pretty top skaters in NZ, who i've been able to photograph and hang with. The skate culture here has both done-my-head-in, and won my heart, i love these guys, who indulge my bizarre spot ideas, and also take the time to explain and show me the way. Im lucky i get support and constructive critique from people i've admired for a long time, you know who you are!! Also, a big shout out to Quest Skate Store in Dunedin, who encourage me to keep trying. You guys are the coolest.
 ...

Of course my biggest dream at the moment would to be to shoot a photo worthy of publishing in Manual magazine.

But i did manage to make a Friday contribute post on their website with a photo of Hootie Andrews, different angle below.
